Rare brass and steel flintlock tinder lighter with Walnut handle. Made late 1700s. Tinder lighters were used in the 18th century before the invention of matches to produce a spark from the flint which ignited the tinder located in the brass storage area. The ignited tinder would then in turn be used to light candles.
Free standing with candle holder and tinder storage compartment resembling a barrel.
